Under the National Registry standards, Emergency Medical Technicians are required to complete a total of 40 hours of continuing education which is broken down into the following categories:
* National Continued Competency- 20 hours of classroom based lecture / return demonstration based on the National EMS Standards. The continued Competency program requires proficiency in the following hands on skills only:
- Oxygenation of the apneic patient
- Single Rescuer CPR- Adult & Pediatric
- Tourniquet application to a simulated patient
- Demonstration of the Epinephrine Auto Injector (trainer) to a patient experiencing anaphylaxis
- *Time permitting- practice effective patient restraint
- *Demonstration of securing a car seat to the ambulance cot.
For those individuals whose NREMT or MA certifications expire in 2018, the NCCR meets the requirements for the NREMT EMT-B to EMT transition.
Students are then required to complete 10 hours of local continuing education.
We have scheduled Continuing Education courses to satisfy this requirement. Those are as follows. For our 2018 Con-Ed Bundle. Students are eligible to take the 20 Hour Continued Competency course and choose three (3) of the courses listed below for one low price of $250.
- Bites & Stings
- BLS Healthcare Provider Renewal
- Prehospital Behavioral Emergencies
- Sick/Not Sick
- Stree Drugs of Abuse
Students are required to complete 10 hours of individual continuing education.
Total Continuing Education Requirement= 40 hours.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be provided with a course completion certificate and program outline for the breakdown of each required category. This will allow the student to transfer the course information to their MassEMT.org or NREMT.org Continuing Education Profile.
National EMS Institute is accredited to teach at the BLS level.
