Continued Competency Program (NREMT)

Do not let your certification lapse simply due to neglect!
National EMS Institute provides a premier atmosphere and learning environment for students during their Continued Competency program. While enjoying the lectures and presentations from plush leather chairs, a Bose surround sound system and the newly added HD projector screen. When it’s time to set the books aside, climb aboard our Training Simulation Ambulance staffed by our seasoned instructors and always impressive SIM-MAN. NEI is excited to have the pleasure of training for you in the Continued Competency Program (NREMT).

For students who began their endeavor with us, we urge you to return. Our staff continues to make vast additions and improvements throughout our company. It has been both an honor and privilege to have trained you in the past. We look forward to working with you once again in the future!

The National Registry of EMTs Continued Competency Program has replaced the old Massachusetts Refresher Training Program. Under these standards, Emergency Medical Technicians are required to complete a total of 40 hours of continuing education every two years:

*National Continued Competency-

20 hours of classroom-based lecture/return demonstration based on the National EMS Standards. The continued Competency program requires proficiency in the following hands-on skills only:

  1. Oxygenation of the apneic patient
  2. Single Rescuer CPR- Adult & Pediatric
  3. Tourniquet application to a simulated patient
  4. Demonstration of the Epinephrine Auto Injector (trainer) to a patient experiencing anaphylaxis
  5. *Time permitting- practice effective patient restraint
  6. *Demonstration of securing a car seat to the ambulance cot.

Students are then required to complete 10 hours of local continuing education.

Students are required to complete 10 hours of individual continuing education. This can be done online through mediced.com or through reading articles such as case studies in JEMS.

Total Continuing Education Requirement= 40 hours.

How to:

  • If a student is MA and NREMT certified, they only need to enter their training information into the NREMT Database.
  • MA Only EMTs should visit massemt.org to create a training profile and enter their continuing education credits.
  • For both NREMT and MA, there is a selection for NCCP in the drop-down box. This will pre-populate the National Education section of their profiles, so they do not need to enter each topic individually. The program we offer is two days in length, from 8 am-7 pm. NEI is a state-accredited training institution. Therefore all programs will be held at the designated times, and each hour must be attended to receive credit for the course.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be provided with a course completion certificate and program outline for the breakdown of each required category. This will allow the student to transfer the course information to their MassEMT.org or NREMT.org Continuing Education Profile.

National EMS Institute is accredited to teach at the BLS level in the State of MA.
